Calculate the ninth-position check digit.

Build a 17-character VIN and calculate position 9 using the transliteration table, weighting factors and modulus 11 method defined in the reference workbook.

Digital calculation of the chassis-number check character and verified transfer to the physical vehicle identity marking

Enter the VIN components.

The form follows the field order in the Excel template. Position 9 is calculated automatically and the complete VIN is then generated.

Positions 1–3. Example: NR9
Positions 4–6. Code identifying the vehicle type.
Positions 7–8. Position 9 is calculated.
Position 10.
Position 11. For example: N = 2022, P = 2023, R = 2024.
Positions 12–14.
Positions 15–17.

Valid VIN characters are A–H, J–N, P, R–Z and 0–9. The letters I, O and Q are not permitted.

The reference Excel method, implemented online.

1. Characters are transliterated

Each VIN character is converted into its numeric value using the reference transliteration table.

2. Position weights are applied

The 17 positions use the weighting sequence 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 10, 0, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.

3. The modulus 11 result is assigned

The sum of the products is divided by 11. If the remainder is 10, position 9 is X; otherwise, the remainder itself is used.
